SWAB 2022 CURATOR TALKS
by JUSTE JONUTYTE

Tell us your favorite moment at Swab 2021
Meeting many artists, gallerists, collectors and curators during the opening night of the fair. The majority of the fairs were postponed due to the pandemic, so Swab was one of the first opportunities to catch up with my colleagues, and see what new projects artists have been working on over the past year.

What’s something you discovered at Swab 2021 that really sticked to your mind?
Some that first come to mind: Christian Newby at Patricia Fleming, Inma Femenia at Punto Gallery, Carla Hayes Mayoral and Eleonora Agostini at Badr El Jundi’s booth, photographic compositions of Andrea Monti at Transmitter, and many others.

What’s something you discovered at Swab 2021 that really sticked to your mind?
There were quite a few project spaces, artist-run spaces and non-profits participating at the fair that are not traditional commercial galleries, like the Green Parrott, New Jörg Vienna, and others. This really helps bring a more diverse selection of works and artists to the fair. Also, the geography of the galleries was quite broad, ranging from Eastern Europe and Latin America to many local galleries, which was nice to explore.

How would you describe Swab 2021 to someone who couldn’t visit it?
A lively, energetic fair where you can discover a lot of new talent. A friendly, unimtimidating space to meet artists, gallerists and acquire works (even if they are your first ones) in one of the most exciting cities in Europe.

What projects are keeping you busy these days that swabbers should stay tuned for?
I’ll be launching a new lecture series on contemporary art, art market and art history later this year. Also, this year is one where many key art events coincide (Documenta, Venice Biennial, Manifesta, Riga Biennial all the fairs etc) so I hope to attend and keep you posted via social media stories and art reviews.
