Swab Barcelona closes its 9th edition and looks towards its 10th anniversary

Swab Barcelona's ninth edition was a great a success and consolidates the position of the fair in the international contemporary art calendar.
Focus Magreb, curated by Xavier de Luca, project of artistic platforms and collectives located in the north of Africa, which was one of the novelties of this edition, draw the attention of the public due to the lack of knowledge of the emerging cultural scene of that area.

Swab 2016 has surprised the visitors with 3 containers, located in front of the pavilion, and converted into small projection rooms opened to the public. In each of them was presented a movie of one of the three Chinese filmmakers Liu Hao, Yu Depeng y Ju Anqi participants in the programCrossboundaries, curated by Susana Sanz.
Solo Swab, curated by Direlia Lazo and Zaida Trallero, the program dedicated to individual presentations of Latin American artists, presented once again projects of very high quality loaded of sociopolitical content and poetry.

In/Out, curated by Imma Prieto and Frederic Montornés, exceeded all expectations in its first edition in Swab Barcelona, with a great acceptance among the critics due to the surprising display in a “group show” style, that discussed the central question of the project about what being In or Out means.

So Close, So Far curated by Alvaro Gurrea and released in this edition in collaboration with Panasonic LumixG consolidates the relevance of the photographic medium at the fair with a unique project in which Lola Guerrera, Albert Gusí and Clara Cortés discuss about the role of boundaries in the current status quo.

Swab on Paper has presented six projects showing the great current level of artists working in this format.

Swab Seed, curated by David Armengol and MYFAF, curated by Rosa LLeó, contributed with the freshest and most transgressive proposals with an excellent selection of artists and works.
Lamart OffSpace Gallery. MYFAF
The galleries of the General Program, some consolidated and some new at the fair, have strengthened the quality of the edition as the central part of it.
Swab Thinks, offered from Friday to Sunday, interesting talks given by the main curators of the fair to a great audicence.
Last but not least, Swab Performance, curated by Carolina Diez-Cascón, has gained its place at the project in its second edition being a fundamental program for its great interaction with the public.
PASHIAS performance
In this edition, visitors have also been able to enjoy time with friends and family. At Swab Kids by Gymboree the youngest ones had lots of fun while their parents were able to enjoy the original and creative cocktails of Cielo Bar by Metric Market or the interesting editorial proposal by Wer-Haus Shop and Gallery.
