ABOUT SWAB
Swab Barcelona Art Fair is conceived as a platform for the exchange of narratives around contemporary art, bringing together artists, galleries, audiences, and a wide range of cultural agents within a shared space. With an open and welcoming ethos, the project fosters the circulation of artworks, experiences, and knowledge, contributing to a more diverse and sustainable cultural ecosystem.
In its nineteenth edition, Swab places at the centre of its programme the construction of community and the creation of shared value around art. This purpose shapes its role as a meeting point for artistic practices that question the conditions under which they are produced and circulated. In this sense, the fair extends beyond the exhibition space, fostering relationships through an expanded programme.
At the same time, Swab 2026 offers a critical reflection on the tensions and convergences between the dynamics of the art market and the creative freedom of artists. This approach seeks to bring into dialogue the economic frameworks that structure the art system with contemporary practices that, through experimentation and autonomy, redefine its limits.
In this context, the fair is articulated around a set of values aimed at strengthening both the local and international artistic ecosystem:
Encounters
Instances that activate dialogue between artists, galleries, collectors, and diverse audiences. At Swab Barcelona Art Fair, encounters are conceived as spaces of active exchange, where ideas circulate and new forms of connection around contemporary art emerge.
Bridges
Relationships that connect contexts, geographies, and artistic practices. Swab acts as a bridge between local and international scenes, fostering exchanges between agents, knowledge, and experiences that expand the networks of the artistic ecosystem.
Co-creation
Collaborative processes that emphasise the collective construction of knowledge and artistic production. Through a horizontal approach, Swab encourages dynamics in which artists and agents work together, blurring the boundaries of contemporary art spaces.
Sharing
An open practice of circulating knowledge, experiences, and narratives. At Swab, sharing means creating accessible spaces where knowledge is not centralised, but distributed and transformed through ongoing exchange between communities.
