Huaqian Zhang’s exhibition Overheating proposes an installation that follows the principles of design to generate an encounter between the technical and industrial dimension of the design to generate an encounter between the technical and industrial dimension of the knitting machines with the warmth and craftsmanship of the warmth and craftsmanship of sewing and manual labor. For this project of new production Huaqian takes a knitting machine and a knitting machine and intervenes it with Arduino, taking as a reference the Jacquard loom, one of the antecedents of the of computing and databases in binary language. Huaqian works from the transdisciplinarity, between drawing patterns for a garment or for the plans of a building, knitting a scarf or wiring a circuit board. In Huaqian’s practice, links are generated between art and design, taking art and design, taking art as a means of dealing with the world, a processor fed with critical analysis as input, obtaining a disruptive output, and design as the translation of these results into technified and systematized products.
