Predominantly working minimally in black and white, booth artists Alicia Gimeno (b.1989, Barcelona, España) a painter, and Alex R.M. Thompson (b. 1991, Brantford, Canada), a printmaker find themselves concerned with the importance of line and shape, forgoing colour in favour of their monochromatic approaches to image creation. Playing off two dichotomies, Alex R.M. Thompson’s creative practice is rooted in North-American sensibility, industry, the urban, as well as in the communicative potential of architecture. Whereas Gimeno invokes the organic and nature-based form inherited from Catalan modernism surrounding her, along with an interest in spirituality applied to Japanese calligraphy.
