SWAB, BARCELONA'S ESSENTIAL INDEPENDENT ART FAIR, IS BACK!
From September 27 to 30, the art fair will show the latest trends from 70 galleries and spaces. More than 300 artists from around the world will exhibit their work
Swab Barcelona Art Fair will celebrate its 11th edition on September 27, 28, 29 and 30. After celebrating its 10th anniversary, it has established itself as a relevant and experienced international art fair. In 2018, it will show the work of outstanding artists and galleries, along with the most emblematic emergent proposals, which has historically been its purpose.
For this new edition, Swab has invited 70 international galleries that together represent 300 artists. It has expanded its program and maintained its commitment to curated programs. This year’s selection committee is formed by collectors Harold Berg (Economist and Member of the Photography Committee of the Whitney Museum of American Art),Giuseppe Casarotto, (Engineer and President of Bergamo’s ClubGAMeC), and Alfredo Hertzog, (President of Hertzog Art Business) along with Domenico de Chirico, an independent curator, and Danny Baez, independent curator as well as director of MECA International Air Fair in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Swab 2018 will continue being a platform for cultural exchange highlighting Barcelona’s potential with new international proposals and through the Fundació Swab Barcelona. The aim of the fair is to support and encourage new talents and artistic spaces by promoting cultural exchange with the city of Barcelona.

Swab includes a General Program comprising prestigious and established galleries, as well as new proposals including On Paper, which reinterprets paper’s artistic language as a contemporary technique; Swab Ephemeral, featuring ephemeral and installation projects that invite visitors to interact with them and reflect on our current situation in a globalized, fast-paced system; and Performance, one of the fair’s most experimental programs reflecting on the limits of space and the instantaneity of art.

In addition, as a trademark of the fair, Swab empowers young artists, galleries and independent spaces through the MYFAF and Seed programs. The former provides grants to three galleries opened within the past two years with the aim of helping them introduce themselves in the international circuit. Seed, on the other hand, is aimed at new gallery spaces and groups of artists using state-of-the-art platforms and formats.
As in previous editions, Swab Barcelona features a program for international collectors with the aim to enhance and expand private collections with attractive additions and to bring this world closer to people who are new to art collecting and who share a passion for and knowledge about contemporary art.
This program seeks to offer collectors the chance to enjoy the fair and all its proposals, as well as to live an artistic and personal experience in Barcelona through visits to private collections, art centers, exclusive events and all art events taking place in the city during those days.
Awards and Acquisitions
Over the course of its 11 editions, Swab has established its awards and acquisition programs. Among them, the Fundació Banc Sabadell Award for the Best Gallery, theDKV Award for the Best Spanish Artist, the MANGO Award for the Best Emerging Artist, the Grisart Award for Best Photography, the Idea Art Marset Award for the Best Innovative Work, and the Diezy7 Collection Drawing Award.
The Swab´s friends program is created for people who believe in the importance of supporting contemporary art.
Since its inception, the fair has favoured emerging talent, creating opportunities for galleries, artists and young curators to access the art market and grow in it. Being a Swab friend, you can also support the fair’s mission to promote new talent and bring contemporary art closer to the general public.
