Work by Joaquin Segura. Galería Arena México. Solo Swab

From 28/9 to the 1/10 of 2017, Swab Barcelona presents a special edition to celebrate its 10th anniversary.  The fair is consolidating itself in a more mature profile, giving visibility to artists and galleries with outstanding trajectory alongside the most representative of the emerging scene, which has always been its main goal and purpose of existence.

This new special edition welcomes 80 galleries from around the world, expanding its general program while maintaining its commitment to curated programs.

Solo Swab, curated by Direlia Lazo and Zaida Trallero, with solo projects by emerging Latin American artists with strong socio-political content. Focus Magreb, curated by Xavier de Luca, is expanding to Focus Mediterráneo after the success of its 2016 edition, featuring galleries and independent platforms located throughout the Mediterranean region, showcasing its relationships and contrasts.

Swab Seed and Swab Performance, the fair’s most experimental and fresh programs, will once again provide a showcase for new platforms and independent expressions.

IN/OUT, curated by Frederic Montornés and Imma Prieto, expands and consolidates its program, providing an alternative concept within the framework of art fairs, in which 9 pieces will be exhibited in a group show format, with the participation of galleries from Catalonia and other parts of Spain.

Swab Paper also returns as a solo project focused on the paper format. Last but not least, MYFAF(My First Art Fair) offers young galleries the opportunity of participating in their first international art fair, free of charge.

Swab will have a new selection committee comprised of collectors: Harold Berg, economist and member of the photography committee of the Whitney Museum of American Art; Susanne Birbragher, Art Nexus commercial vice-director; Giuseppe Casarotto, engineer and President of the ClubGAMeC of Bergamo; and Alfredo Hertzog, President of Hertzog Art Business; along with: Domenico de Chiricoindependent curator, Albertine de Galbert, independent curator, arte-sur.org  founder and cultural cooperation projects manager; David Armengolindependent curator and Marisol Rodriguez, cultural journalist and independent curator.

Swab City goes beyond fair and gallery walls to bring art to Barcelona’s citizens, through various installations and activities in public spaces and institutions, boosting the idea of Barcelona’s Contemporary Art Week. Swab Stairs and Swab Kids programs will be developed outside the calendar of the fair, throughout the city’s metropolitan area.
