ART FOR LIFE BY LAB’BEL

04/05/2011

The works selected for the exhibition “Art for Life” investigate the place of the emergent artist in our society. These artworks attempt not only to delineate the artist’s role and his/her expectations, but also the social, economic, and ideological challenges that the artist confronts: through a manipulation of the analytical approach, the artist becomes aware of this own practice and the nature of his/her profession and experience. There are six finalists selected by Lab’Bel for solo projects in the fair: Quentin Armand, Mauro Cerqueira, Jean Denant, Raul Hevia, Alejandra Laviada and Isabelle le Minh. To these six, the exhibition curators have added six more artists currently in European residencies in order to fully explore the consequences of geographic mobility inherent in the production of contemporary artworks: WindFerreira at the Pavillon du Palais de Tokyo, Joanthas de Andrade and Andre Guedes at Gasworks, as well as Sergi Botella and Mariana Zamarbide at the Hangar). A sort of immense atelier was constructed by the architects of Petit Cabanon to host the artists’ works and this exhibition, which units their voices and interweaves them in such a way that recalls the thought process in action and also the creative gesture of each unique artist.

At the CCCB, several round tables will display information concerning the artworks as a whole, which articulates certain artists’ insightful reflections regarding the curators, sociologists, and theoreticians, working in the field of contemporary art.
